Overview

Greater security for offsite management

Challenge

Our client is a large industrial company located in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. With Australian based management there was a concern over device security and data security was compromised by poor connectivity and a reliance on manual backup routines. During a recent server replacement, Digital Dexterity included these challenges as part of the project.

Solution

To overcome the issue of data security the Digital Dexterity team utilised existing but redundant infrastructure to create a remote server at a second secure location. This server was connected to the main site by high-speed fibre allowing corporate data to be replicated at the second site. This clever solution created the benefits of cloud backup and disaster recovery without a stable internet connection.

To meet the issue of device security, Digital Dexterity implemented a roll-out of Third Wall software. This software provided executive control of on device activity. Of particular value was the increased overview and control of corporate data formed by disallowing the use of external storage devices and limiting where files could be saved and moved.

Outcomes

Our solutions provided greater peace of mind to company management when they were unable to be onsite. This was particularly relevant during the recent pandemic when travel was greatly restricted. By providing a secure offsite replication of company data and restricting some aspects of the end-user experience the management team were able to reduce their presence without losing control of the company.
